new numbers, faithful God.

16 02 2012

Shortly after posting my monthly support at 57% due to the 2012 monthly support budget, I found two additional pledges totally $75/month in new monthly giving, and another $950 in one-time gifts!  So, as things now stand, I’ve received:

  • 59% of my monthly pledged support
  • 87% of my one-time support

In other words, I’ll be fully supported with $1,600 in new monthly pledges and $3,300 in one-time giving.  God is working through your prayers and giving, and my overall support is right at two-thirds: thanks!

More importantly though, God is building his kingdom in Ukraine, and his providence in my own life keeps pointing that direction.  Financial giving is only one of the tools God is using to build my trust in him and send me to Kiev.  At the truthXchange conference last week, and at the L’Abri conference, I met a number of people who offered contacts they have in Kiev, or sources for Ukrainian language and Russian language evangelistic and discipleship tools.  One friend recommended I connect with his friend, who I didn’t find a the conference, but ran into two days later in Terminal G of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

progress through prayer

20 10 2011

There’s been a lot going on recently – a project is wrapping up at my engineering job, and I mentioned I’ll be asking you to mobilize specific, daily prayer that I’ll reach 80% support by November 15th, so I can register for Pre-Field training in January.

Well, some of you are already praying, and God is already answering, even before I’ve sent out my email asking for prayer: a church and an individual have both pledged generously: I’ve received 49% of my monthly support, and only need $1,150 per month in new pledges to reach 80% by Nov. 15th.   I’ve received nearly two-thirds of my one-time support as well.  So thank you for praying, and please continue.

I’m excited to see how God will answer our prayers! All wealth and honor are his, and if he desires me to serve in Kiev, he will provide–Pray with me.

giving update

23 09 2011

I’m wrapping up my lunch break. I’ve just had a call with my MTW support raising coach, and she and I agreed that I’ve got to keep working and praying for God to confirm my call to Kiev by moving his people’s hearts to give generously. I need full support by the end of the year, but I also need 80% of my monthly pledges in by November 15th to register for my final mandatory training in January.

After our phone call, I checked and discovered a new $50/month pledge from a friend I met with a few weeks ago: I’ve now received 36% of my monthly support.

Praise God with me! Keep praying if you’ve already pledged or given! Please pledge monthly if you’re able.

Have a great afternoon, folks!

here’s the deal: give & pray today

9 09 2011

Some of you have been following my story for a while, some are new readers.  I’m writing an email update tonight (sign up here if you’d like to join my email list), but wanted to give my blog readers a shout-out.

My support-raising deadline is technically the end of November, but I think I’ve got till the end of the year.  Either way, that’s not a lot of time, and I’ve only received 34% of my monthly support.  But 63 (or 48) new monthly supporters (and three church or very generous individuals) would meet 100% of my outstanding $2,470 monthly support need.  Here’s how:

  • 1 church or person giving $300 per month
  • 2 churches or people giving $150 per month
  • 3 people giving $90 per month
  • 10 people giving $60 per month
  • 25 people giving $30 per month
  • 25 people giving $10 per month (or 10 giving $25/month)

Which giver are you?

There’s lots of other ways the math could work, but the point is I need your pledge today if God plans to supply my support by the end of the year.  His provision for cross-cultural ministry will come through his people’s giving.

I’m going to help strengthen the church in Kiev using the gifts God’s given me in music ministry, evangelism, and discipleship.  Please pledge now if you haven’t, and pray now for the Lord to provide all my needs and to confirm his calling through the generous giving and praying of his people.

Will you help send me in a manner worthy of God?  3 John 5 – 8 says:

5Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, 6who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God. 7For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. 8Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.

quick update

8 06 2011

Hi friends, supporters, and prayer partners. A few of you have asked recently where I’m at with support raising. I’ve currently received 41% of my one-time support, and 32% of my monthly pledges. Hopefully I’ll be finishing an update this afternoon and sending that out via email and snail-mail tomorrow. Over Memorial Day weekend I found a really cheap ticket and went to Minnesota to visit friends and was able to share my Ukraine ministry with a church in Minnetonka. More later – thanks for praying and giving!

post-tornado work

19 05 2011

My previous post lets you know what’s occupied much of my time since my last update. The other reason for my relative lack of posts here was a technical issue that prevented me from logging into this site. Thankfully that’s fixed.

Now I’m back at Ukraine support-raising, and I need your help again. From mid-March to mid-April, I asked you to pray as I worked that I’d reach 60% of my pledged monthly support by April 15th. On that Friday, I had pledges for 29% of monthly support, up 12% from when you started praying. Now my monthly pledged support is 31%, and my one-time support is 35%.

I’m facing an open calendar, and need your help again. Will you pray with me for these two things?

  • that between now and Friday, June 17th, I’ll reach 50% of my monthly support
  • that I’ll be able to schedule meetings with potential financial and prayer supporters

That would be a 15% increase in my monthly support. Last time you prayed God provided 12%, and I believe we’re called to faithfulness in small things. Certainly the Lord who ruled the tornado’s power and protected my parents house can provide the support I need for serving in Ukraine.

Thanks for your work in prayer on my behalf.  Pray that the church may be strengthened in Kiev, and that God will continue leading me as I prepare to serve him there.

pledges through prayer

14 04 2011

No sooner had I posted my 24% monthly support level than it was outdated.  By Tuesday morning, a pledge via email and another pledge from a co-worker at my engineering firm raised my monthly support to 26%.  Tuesday evening I received a generous one-time gift and a monthly pledge after presenting the Ukraine ministry at another small group.

Wednesday after work I drove to Atlanta to share God’s call in my life and his kingdom-building work in Kiev with the church I attended during my Georgia Tech days.  I was encouraged to hear these brothers and sisters praying, to hear how they’re growing in their love for each other and for Jesus–in a sense, to overhear the gospel percolating in their lives.  After a late-night drive back to Chattanooga (including singing along with music I love and listening to a L’Abri lecture Carrie Adams gave on Vocation and Calling), I discovered a friend and two relatives had pledged monthly and quarterly support, bringing my monthly support up to 29%.

So my monthly support has increased 9% in the first three days of this week.  Thanks to those who’ve pledged, and thanks to those who’ve prayed.  Praise the Lord for his provision!
